PAST-PRESIDENT ROY SMITH AWARDED THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION

“MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL”

The highest award that can be granted to Ordinary, Associate or Affiliate Voting Members by The Royal Canadian Legion.

Roy originally joined the Royal Canadian Legion after immigrating to Canada from England in 1951 going to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He came to Calgary in 1965 and moved into Bowness, joining our Branch at that time. Over the years he has pretty much done every job in the Branch, including laying the bricks as a Journeyman Mason when the Branch built an extension! President several times and always willing to take on an extra task he is so well deserving of this prestigious award that the Branch is very glad to see that both Alberta and Northwest Territories Command and Dominion approved the Branch request for presentation at the Branch General Meeting on Monday, September 25th. Congratulations Roy for well over 50-years of hard work and support to your Legion.

 E-MAIL ADDRESSES

EVERY YEAR WE ASK YOU TO UPDATE YOUR INFORMATION

THE MEMBERSHIP 1ST VICE PRESIDENT HAS SEEN TOO MANY

“NO CHANGES”

Sorry Members, but in far too many instances we have found people have not only changed their addresses but also their Phone Numbers and E-mail. On average for every 10 slips filled in – 8 yes – EIGHT have changes we did not know about!

And members complain that we are not keeping them up-to-date with what is going on!

Do you realize that to hold a Special General Meeting we have to notify EVERY MEMBER of the meeting and why it is being called. Do you ALSO realize that to do that to our over 675 members by mail it would  cost a minimum of $0.85 a MEMBER or well over $500.00!

SO MEMBERS, WHEN YOU RENEW:

PLEASE update your phone, email and address. A recent count of E-mail addresses showed that we have less than 3000 E-mail addresses but over 675 members! We do not give out E-mail addresses to anybody. Having them available when we must send out meeting and activity notices would save us $0.85 a member at Canada Post. PLUS the paper, envelopes and the stuffing of envelopes – so please help us to keep our costs down. The bar has the paper information slips just for this purpose, so next time you are in. . . . . . .

DO IT!

PLEASE DON’T WRITE – “NO CHANGE!”

Don’t miss your opportunity to keep the many benefits of your Legion membership.

For 2019 renew your membership by November 30, 2018 and get entered in an “EARLY BIRD” draw for one of three free memberships AND

·         Keep your account in good standing

·         Maintain years of continuous service

·         Support the Branch and its programs

Encourage a friend or family member to join, too! Every member makes a difference. Don’t forget you need a proposer and a seconder from existing Branch Members followed by approval from the Branch Executive Committee.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
