Royal Canadian Legion Branch

Around and About

This page is being introduced with the idea of keeping everyone up-to-date with what is going on in the wider community. As the page gets built you will see notices for events at other local Legion Branches, local military units and the various cadet corps supported by your Bowness Legion Branch 238. Sometimes these might just be a quick note or a hot link to their sites. Scroll down and enjoy!

Our Mission

True Patriot Love honours the sacrifices of members of the Canadian Armed Forces, veterans and their families in both times of peace and conflict by:

1. Funding programs in mental health, physical rehabilitation, family supports and veteran transition that address the unique challenges related to the impact of service;
2. Funding research to discover new treatments, establish evidence-based programs and increase access to programs and treatments dedicated to advancing the well-being of serving members, veterans and their families;
3. Discovering solutions to systemic challenges that military families and veterans face by facilitating national discussions and international symposia with representatives from across all relevant sectors, and;
4. Pairing injured soldiers with Canadian business leaders on ambitious expeditions to profile our soldiers’ perseverance and continued commitment to service, as well the transferability of their military skills to a civilian career.

The Branch Webmaster visited the Bowness Community Association to ask what is happening. It seems the city has not mentioned anything to the association about a start that was originally scheduled for June this year. There was a rumour that it was going to kick off in August but now it seems it is going to be completely re-tendered. There is nothing on the city’s web site that gives an update. If anyone can tell us what is REALLY happening we would like to know as the area where the skateboard facility is to be built is close by the Branch 238 War Memorial.

The last survey of Bownesians was in 2012, so the arrival of this survey is timely. Use the connection below to provide your thoughts, beefs and great ideas. It took yours truly about 20-minutes and our association needs the input. Go to the association website and scroll down a quarter page:

If you prefer hard copies, they have been distributed around various Bowness businesses and associations as well as at the community association office in the Sportplex on 43rd Avenue NW close to 77th Street NW.
